They're one of the only restaurants that offer Indian or Nepalese cuisine in the area, and it didn't disappoint. Because it's located in a relatively small town, it was fairly empty. However, the servers were attentive, and quick to help. The butter chicken and the bread basket were the highlights of our meal, but I will note that most of the serving sizes were small for the entrees! ”

“ Went there with kids and grandparents. We have had Indian food before and been to India, too. We loved the food all around. It had something for people who like it spicy and how want it very mild. The menu had a lot of options, and all was very well prepared and seasoned. The service was very nice, knowledgeable, and well engaging. The place looks bit run down and not fancy but had an absolutely authentic smell and look. Some of us were vegans and they had excellentt and several vegan foods on the menu. No substitutions needed. The staff knew about vegan requirements. ”

“ There are a multitude of choices on the menu, but only one designated vegan option. However, if you ask, you will find that there really are about a handful more vegan options than the one stated at the top of the menu. I'm glad I asked bc I was hoping to get the Dal, but luckily the waiter knew that there was butter in that dish. He pointed out the other vegan options for us. We ended up getting Chana Masala (mild) and Aloo Gobi (spicy). I really liked the serving bowls. We also had rice & chapati. The dishes were excellent and we can definitely see stopping here again the next time we are in town. We had total confidence in our waiter that he knew what was/wasn't vegan. Plenty of parking and the facilities inside were clean. ”

“ We went for lunch on a Saturday. We received a warm welcome and were quickly seated. There were 3 of us. My son ordered the tandoori chicken, I got the vegan Thali and my husband got a mixed vegetable dish. The meal started with a delicious lentil soup. It was unexpected and a wonderful surprise. We all loved it. I didn't try my son's chicken tandoori but he raved about it. He ordered it with a medium spice level. My husband and I both ordered our food very spicy and it had a nice heat level. I tried a bite of his and it was good. My vegan Thali was a culinary adventure. The momos and samosas were shared around the table and all of us were impressed. I will be returning. ”

“ Living in the foothills, it is hard to find solid Indian food. Until now. Ever since we moved closer to the Sierras, this place in Jackson caught our eye, and for good reason. My husband and I have now been no less than 5 times and every time the food is delicious. I even brought my good friend with me one time to enjoy the lunch specials. Yes--Taste of Himalaya has lunch specials, and for an affordable price ($12-$15 depending on your veggie/protein choice)! Trust me when I say these lunch specials are filling as well, but not overly so. They come with a great portion of rice & naan, house salad, and small soup. You can order an appetizer to share (I highly recommend the Himalayan samosas), and their drinks are also great (not pictured). My friend ordered their mango lassi and I ordered their house chai. My go-to lunch special is their goat curry, it is melt-in-your-mouth good. The side salad is crunchy and refreshing, the soup is served nice and hot, and the naan is buttery and flaky. You can ask for the spice level of the curry/tikka masala that you're comfortable with. I get medium The one time I chose to order from the main entree portion was for the Himalayan chicken special, and I chose to upgrade that to what is known as a Thali dinner, which gives you more sides. I could not finish my food and took some delicious leftovers home for dinner that evening. The Himalayan chicken special was seasoned beautifully and the chicken was cooked to perfection. The owner said extremely nice and pays great attention to his guests. Our waters were refilled often and he would come by to ask how everything was multiple times during our meal. Our food and drinks are served with a smile. Indian food has always been hit or miss in the past with me in terms of my GI tract, but never once has the food from Taste of Himalaya upset my stomach. You can truly tell the attention to freshness and food safety here. The outside of the establishment is unassuming and is easily passed by on Hwy 49, but stop by and try the food here. It is not to be missed!! We would love to come for dinner service at some point and enjoy the other entrees they offer. ”
